Tell us about Blog Society.
At the very heart of Blog Society lies the power of connection. I built this business around the need of belonging and our inherent desire to reach and meet others who have shared beliefs. Through Blog Society, my creative matchmaking abilities shine through as we aim to connect others, give them a platform in which to tell their story, and offer ways to collaborate and grow through our online and offline courses and events.
How would you describe the Blog Society tribe?
The community itself has grown beyond my wildest dreams, but collectively it is a group of female-based bloggers and creative entrepreneurs from all corners of the globe. They are creative, curious dreamers with busy lives and big plans. We have shared experiences and a collective desire to raise each other up.
What inspired you to start Blog Society?
I think the idea always was bubbling under the surface. Well before I moved to Australia in late 2007, I had started blogging. I was traveling in Europe in 2005, and my first blog was about my adventures. In hindsight, I wish that I had kept that blog going because, of course, back then it was a really rare thing and if I had only known that the blogging world was just going to explode. Years later, I found myself in Australia and reading popular blogs every single night. I thought, “One of these days I’m going to start my own personal blog.”
So I did. It was a wonderful way for me to connect with women in Australia who were also creative and seeking connections. That blossomed into a whole string of opportunities. Then, in 2013, I decided that I wanted to expand upon that and create a business-focused community called Blog Society. We started on Instagram, and our first event was a collaboration with Kinfolk Magazine. It’s been going strong ever since, and we’re expanding globally.
What were three things that made Blog Society a success?
(1) Real, Relatable Approach – I’m all about honesty and telling it like it is.
(2) Action – At the end of the day, it’s all about hard work and actually putting in the time.
(3) Collaboration – Early on I made it my mission to make collaboration an integral part of my business, and it changed everything.
I’m an old fashioned girl when it comes to planning. I love my Google Docs and to-do lists.
